Position Goal
The Hughston Clinical Trial Nurse plays a crucial role in medical research, particularly in testing new treatments and therapies. They will work closely with patients participating in clinical trials, ensuring their safety and well being throughout the research process. This process is vital for advancing medical knowledge and improving patient care through innovative treatments.
Position Responsibilities
- Ensures integrity and quality of the Hughston clinical trials process and ensures all compliance with state, federal, local agencies and Hughston policy/procedure in performance of duties.
- Engage with patients to explain the trial process and obtain necessary information and informed consent.
- Documents approval of trials with all related notes.
- Assists in participant trial selection efforts by interviewing and documenting medical history to determine compliance with study eligibility requirements.
- May perform medical tests, including but not limited to; patient vitals, blood draw and general nursing assessments.
- Ensures compliance with safety protocols and monitors patients for any adverse effects/complications during the assigned trial.
- Gather and records patient data before, during and after treatment. Document findings & all medical related data, report progress to the research team which requires constant collaboration.
- Ensures compliance and on-going quality control by performing audits as necessary.
- Act as a liaison between researchers and patients, facilitating communication and understanding.
- Must work with multidisciplinary teams to ensure smooth trial operations.
- Develops accurate patient materials as needed for assigned trial as assigned.
Experience:
Required:
- Minimum two years experience as a clinical trial nurse in similar or a related setting. (lab)
- Knowledge of medical laboratory /nursing basic protocols.
- Ability to address and resolve unexpected issues that arise during the trials.
- Must be proficient with Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, etc) or equivalent
Preferred:
- Phlebotomy training or peripheral blood draw expertise preferred as a common component of clinical trials.
Education:
Required:
- Must be a licensed Registered Nurse (RN) in the state of GA. Diploma from accredited nursing school required.
Preferred:
- Master of Science in Nursing (MSN) or Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP) is preferred.
Special Qualifications:
Required:
- Valid Driver’s License, satisfactory motor vehicle report (MVR) and proof of insurance required for position on-boarding.
- Annual MVR may be required per policy and procedure; background reports may be ran as needed throughout the course of employment.
- Basic Life Support documentation required.
- The successful candidate must have demonstrated true distinction in research, and the capability of sustaining first-rate performance within the field of medicine broadly.
- Experience working in a high end innovative laboratory.
- Demonstration of clinical trial and safety focus in performance of all assigned duties.
- Demonstration of leadership skills in performance of daily duties is required along with good professional judgement. Demonstration of critical thinking skills in performance of position.
- Proficient in use of Microsoft office products; excel, word, powerpoint, outlook and be able to work withing specific industry programs as assigned.
- Ability to work well individually or as a team; must be able to work under established deadlines.
- Strong knowledge of medical terminology, clinical medicine, trials and concepts.
- Excellent written and oral communication for successful patient interaction and reporting.
